Raving Jaynes improv workshop at GO

Tomorrow the Raving Jaynes will lead Grace Outreach students through a dance and improvisation confidence building workshop!

This workshop will combine techniques from comedy and dance improvisation as a way to remind participants of their own creative power.  The goal is to create a safe environment where participants can explore the freedom of the imagination and the strength of the body. In particular, we will use improvisational techniques to help build confidence.  We will explore what it means to be present, grounded and energized and how to move forward assertively; even when we don’t know what comes next.

Amy Larimer is a dancer, choreographer and improviser and is currently one half of The Raving Jaynes: Improvised Dance/Theater with her bud Jamie Graham! Together they have performed at: the PIT; Duofest; Twin Cities Improv Festival; ADaPT in Santa Barbara; Abundance in Karlstad, Sweden; the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and IMPRO Amsterdam. She toured internationally with Nicholas Leichter Dance and her choreography has been presented at Joe’s Pub; HERE; DTW; Dixon Place; P.S. 122; The Crisis Art Festival in Arezzo, Italy and in Beth Portnoy’s dance film Gyre-ation. She did time as a yoga teacher and is currently an Associate Professor and the Director of the Dance Program at Lehman College.

Jamie Graham performs improvised dance theater with Amy Larimer in the one of a kind duo The Raving Jaynes. Together they have played DuoFest, IMPRO Amsterdam, TCIF, The PIT, and Unscripted New York (to name a few). She took her first improv steps with The Raving Jaynes and coach Jay Rhoderick in 2010 and has since studied at The PIT, at The Annoyance, with Action Theater extraordinaire Cassie Terman, and with clown guru Virginia Scott. You may also find Jamie flipping her skirt over her head with Jenny Rocha and her Painted Ladies or commanding a reformer at Form Pilates Union Square.
