Things at GO heated up last week with the arrival of Kelsey Minton from Hot Bread Kitchen! Kelsey came to speak to the current group of HSE students about a fantastic program, Bakers in Training, that provides free baking and culinary training to women in NYC.
GO students were excited to learn about this great opportunity which includes four weeks of training in essential kitchen skills and job readiness followed by a three month paid apprenticeship and job placement assistance. Hot Bread Kitchen offers an amazing chance to learn the ins and outs of large scale baking and gain hands-on experience successfully navigating a commercial kitchen. Graduates of the program are placed in full-time, fair wage positions in the culinary industry.
After her presentation, Kelsey stayed to answer questions and assist students with applying to the program. At least five students completed applications that day and many more expressed interest in upcoming sessions. GO is thankful to Kelsey and Hot Bread Kitchen for visiting and sharing such a valuable resource with us!
