The participants in GO’s “Summer Bridge” College Prep program headed downtown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday to research subject matter for their upcoming group projects presentations.
For 11 of the participants it was their first time ever vising the Met! Each group explored a different exhibit that they’ll present on next week. In the ‘Sultans of Deccan India’ gallery, Shanay, Nicayne, and Alicia had never seen diamonds so big, and Shanay made use of the museum’s magnifying glasses to get an up-close look.
TK was interested to learn that a number of the ceramics in ‘Discovering Japanese Art’ exhibition were made by unknown artists. Sueshanna focused her attention on making observation notes on just a few pieces she was “especially drawn to,” while Cheyanne made use of the Museums iPads to collect information.
The overall favorite was ‘China: Through the Looking Glass.’ Stacey and Angelica walked through the collection of fashion deciding which pieces they would most like to wear.
Lezette, Ray Jean, Fatoumata, and Alma explored ‘Warriors and Mothers: Epic Mbembe Art.’ When asked what they learned about this collection of Nigerian art they said we would have to wait for their presentation. “You’re going to be surprised.”
