Last Thursday, Grace Outreach and the Bronx Center for Nonprofits at Hostos Community College convened a meeting to discuss the state of adult and young adult literacy in the Bronx. A total of 42 educators, nonprofit professionals, policy makers, funders, and students shared their perspectives on the TASC exam, on necessary advocacy on both the local and state levels, and ways to collaborate more effectively.
Panelists Jenny Ristenbatt (CUNY Prep), Zeki Blanding (Grace Outreach) James Johnson (The Door), Darryl Rogers (Hostos College) and Tom Hilliard (Center for Urban Future) kicked off the session, and a keynote from Deputy Borough President Aurelia Greene brought together many important threads of the conversation.
Thanks to everyone who made it! Looking forward to next steps.
