On Tuesday, May 9th we celebrated the power of education at the 2017 Grace Outreach Benefit honoring Lauren Bush Lauren (Founder and CEO of FEED) and awarding the Humanitarian Award to Sharon Bush. This fundraising dinner, held at the Racquet and Tennis Club of New York, was packed with over 180 attendees.
GO student, Yaren Santana (pictured above with GO student Javielis Pagan and Lauren Bush Lauren), gave a rousing speech about how Grace Outreach served as a “do-over” for her. Yaren graduated with her High School Equivalency Degree in 2010, attended our College Program prep class, and went on to graduate with an Associates degree from Bronx Community College and a Bachelors degree from Hunter College. She’s now at New York University pursuing a Masters degree in Child Psychology. Yaren said “my goal was not to speak only about my life story. I was hoping that the spirit of my words would instill inspiration and become a guiding light to anyone in that room.”
Lauren Bush Lauren and Sharon Bush both spoke about the importance of participating in philanthropy, and teaching our children to give back from childhood on, just as Sharon taught Lauren.
Many thanks to all of our friends, families, and supporters for coming out and celebrating the work that Grace Outreach does of moving women ahead through education!
